My education has always lived outside the classroom. It started in Outdoor Education and Leadership, in the wilds Emerson, Thoreau, and Louis L'Amour wrote me into. That's where I first met experiential education and constructivism, long before I knew the names for them.

The Army turned that into instruction at scale: combat medicine for soldiers, 40-hour Combat Lifesaver workshops for non-medics, basic firearms and concealed carry on top. Out of uniform I joined a fast-moving SaaS startup as their Education Manager, building the technical documentation and customer training that springboarded a decade in tech: enterprise IT leadership, security and GRC roles, and now AI Learning Engineering on top of it all. The teacher's seat has been the constant. The MS in Learning Design & Technology at UMGC is where the theory keeps catching up.
