Why Records Matter

Lesson

Records Are the Backbone of a Regulated Industry

Massachusetts cannabis is one of the most heavily regulated retail environments in the country. Alcohol has federal and state oversight. Pharmacies have FDA and DEA rules. Cannabis has layered regulators, a statewide track-and-trace system, and a Cannabis Control Commission that can inspect a licensee without notice.

Every piece of that oversight depends on records. If a product is pulled from a shelf during an investigation, the CCC works backward through records to trace where it came from, who touched it, and who it was sold to. If you cannot produce a record, the law treats it as if the activity did not happen legally.

As a Marijuana Establishment Agent, the data you enter into the point-of-sale and Metrc systems is a legal record. It gets audited. It gets reviewed. If something does not add up, the Establishment's license is exposed.

💡 Every scan, every ID check, every receipt is a legal record. Treat the work that way.
